Free legal aid, supervised by faculty

Free legal help for the people of Lapu-Lapu City.

How It Works

01

Book a slot

Choose a consultation date online, by email, or by walking into the clinic office in Soong. Bring or send the papers about your problem: IDs, contracts, receipts, barangay records, court notices.

02

Intake interview

A law student practitioner interviews you, confirms your eligibility, and opens your case file. What you tell the clinic is confidential and covered by lawyer-client privilege.

03

Your legal plan

A supervising attorney reviews the file, then the clinic gives you written advice, the documents you need, or a referral to the right office. There is no charge at any stage.

What We Handle

We take the everyday legal problems families in Lapu-Lapu City actually face. We also draft the documents you need — affidavits, special powers of attorney, deeds, and pleadings — all reviewed and signed by a supervising attorney. If your matter is not on this list, book anyway and we will tell you where to go.

Every case is handled by certified law student practitioners under Rule 138-A, the Revised Law Student Practice Rule, with a supervising attorney who reviews and signs off on all work before it is released. Level 1 practitioners interview clients, conduct legal research, and draft documents. Level 2 practitioners may appear before courts and quasi-judicial bodies within the limits of the Rule. Every student signs a confidentiality undertaking.

Who We Can Help

Eligibility is confirmed at intake, free of charge

01

Who qualifies

Residents of Lapu-Lapu City and the Mactan island barangays who cannot afford private counsel, with household income within the clinic's indigency threshold, following Public Attorney's Office standards.

02

What we can take

Matters within our practice areas and within the scope of law student practice, where there is no conflict of interest with an existing clinic client and you are not already represented by another lawyer.

03

What we cannot take

Cases already handled by another lawyer, and matters needing court action beyond the scope of student practice. Not sure whether you qualify? Book anyway. Screening costs nothing and we will point you to the right office.

Important notice

What you tell the clinic is confidential and is protected by the lawyer-client privilege as applied under the Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability.

Booking a consultation does not by itself create a lawyer-client relationship; that relationship begins only when the clinic formally accepts your case in writing. The clinic charges no fees at any stage. If anyone asks you for payment in the clinic's name, report it to the Clinical Program Director immediately.

Law student practitioners act only under Rule 138-A, the Revised Law Student Practice Rule, and under the direct supervision of a licensed supervising attorney.
